Hammersmith Bridge’s main carriageway reopened in April 2025 only to people on foot, bikes, wheelchairs and e-scooters, so a car comes into Barnes by another route. A single oven at standard width, one door, is £77 for oven cleaning in Barnes with Cleaning Oven.

In 2021 the Barnes and Mortlake & Barnes Common wards had 9,517 households, 56.3% of them owner-occupiers, 26.9% private renters and 16.3% social renters. The two wards are not alike. Barnes ward was 29.9% semi-detached and 23.9% terraced; Mortlake & Barnes Common was 40.3% purpose-built flats and 34.0% terraced. Both sit in Richmond upon Thames, across SW13 and SW14.

Mansion flats and cottages round the Green

The council first drew the Barnes Green boundary in January 1969 and widened it most recently in 2018. Inside it are Victorian mansion blocks four storeys high beside two-storey villas. There are rows of little workers’ cottages by Cleveland Road, The Maltings and Limes Avenue, and three-storey Edwardian semis along Grange Road. Each asks something different of the visit. For a mansion flat, tell the office which floor and whether a lift serves it. In a cottage the kitchen may be small, so clear the floor in front of the oven. In a three-storey semi the kitchen might be at garden level, down a few stairs. Once there, the cleaner takes the shelves, tray and runners out to soak, cleans the inside, the door glass and the seal by hand, refits the lot and runs the oven to prove it heats.

Castelnau’s villas by Hammersmith Bridge

Castelnau grew after the Hammersmith toll bridge opened, starting with twenty pairs of classical villas and adding large Victorian houses, tall Edwardian flats and, on the river, the old Harrods Depository. It became a conservation area in 1977. The bridge itself, Grade II* listed, was shut completely in 2020, and its main deck still takes no motor traffic, so give the office the full address and house number. A big family kitchen in one of the villas could have a range cooker (£143 at 90 cm, £167 at 100 cm or more) or an AGA at £143 for two ovens, switched off and cooled beforehand.

Morning-only zones in Barnes and Mortlake

Across most of zone B1 the bays are enforced only on weekdays between 10am and noon. Mortlake’s zone M runs just from 9am to 11am, so an afternoon visit on those streets usually falls outside the controls. Central Barnes (CB) and the High Street bays (M3) are another matter, enforced from 8am until 6.30pm six days a week. Bracken Gardens and Byfeld Gardens are controlled every day, bank holidays included, until 9.30pm. If the cleaner pays to park, you are charged that sum and never more than £40.

Questions about oven cleaning in Barnes

What if the cooker turns out bigger than the one booked?

The cleaner says so before starting and agrees any change in price with you there and then. The price is based on what you describe, so measure the width and count the doors first.

Is a hood over a range cooker priced like a standard one?

No. A standard extractor hood is £28 and a range hood, 90 cm or wider, £48; the metal grease filters are soaked with the oven racks. The extractor page explains what happens to charcoal filters.

Is SW14 covered as well as SW13?

Yes, Mortlake included. The price list gives each item, and the form or the call confirms the full price for your postcode.
