New riverside blocks on the Peninsula and at the Royal Arsenal hold thousands of flats that usually have built-in ovens. Renters on the way out book oven cleaning in Greenwich with Cleaning Oven, as can whoever moves in next; a single is £77.

A good share of the Royal Borough’s housing belongs to this century. Of 125,060 homes on the Valuation Office list for March 2025, 26.3% were built in 2000 or since, and at the 2021 census just over half of households, 51.5%, had a flat. The Peninsula scheme reports 3,479 homes finished so far, and the council says the Royal Arsenal riverside has gained more than 3,500 since building started there in 2001.

Leaving a new-build flat on Greenwich Peninsula

Handing back a recent flat normally means a built-in oven, sitting under the hob or in a column of units, often with a hood on the wall above. Peninsula ward was 87.0% flats in 2021, and 39.4% of its households rented from a private landlord. You can book the oven by itself, or have a standard hob and hood done in the same visit, which costs £117 if the oven is a single and £143 if it is a double. The hood’s metal grease filters come down to soak; a carbon filter stays put, because most are designed to be thrown out and swapped. Newer doors vary, so the inner glass is reached only where the design lets the door open up, and the make and model you give on the call settle that beforehand. The move-out oven clean and extractor hood cleaning pages go through each part.

First-floor front doors in Thamesmead

Thamesmead was laid out from the late 1960s on old marshland, and after the floods of 1953 its original design kept homes up off the ground: living space at first floor level or above, walkways in the air, garages underneath. A town house there may well have its kitchen a storey up, and in the 12-storey concrete blocks it can be many floors higher. Tell the office which level your front door is on and whether a walkway or a staircase gets you to it. The cleaner hauls the products and tools up, then needs water and electricity on and an oven that has cooled right down. The newer buildings in SE28 are more traditional and built in brick.

Family houses in Eltham and Plumstead

Away from the river the houses take over. Across the four Eltham wards only 29.7% of households had a flat in 2021, and 56.3% owned their home. Plumstead’s 1880s boom left two-up, two-down terraces near the water and larger houses higher up around the Common, and the Progress Estate at Well Hall is two-storey cottage-style homes from 1915. A house kitchen could have a pair of built-in ovens, a freestanding cooker with two doors or a wide range, so take a tape measure to its width and note how many doors it has; the guide to oven types names each kind. With two doors at the usual width it is a double, £110. A 90 cm range is £143; for a range the office sometimes wants to see a picture first, arranged by phone.

Weekend parking in Woolwich and Greenwich town centre

Some of the Royal Borough’s 30 controlled zones are enforced at weekends. Woolwich Arsenal is enforced every day of the week from 8.30am, and the Greenwich Town Centre zone runs Monday to Saturday and again on Sunday until 6pm. East Greenwich is controlled every day too. None of the 30 carries the Peninsula’s name or Thamesmead’s. Wherever the cleaner has to pay to stop, the amount is passed on as spent, never over £40, and a residents’ permit street is something to raise on the call.

Questions about oven cleaning in Greenwich

Do you clean ovens in the Royal Arsenal and Peninsula blocks?

Yes, in any flat in SE10 or SE18. Give the building name, your floor and what the cleaner needs to get through the main entrance, and say whether the hob is gas or glass-topped and how wide the hood is, so the price is right.

Does the seal round the oven door of a Peninsula flat get cleaned?

Yes. The seal gets wiped clean by hand while the cleaner works on the cavity and door glass; a worn or torn seal stays as it is, since no parts are supplied or fitted. Greenwich Peninsula ward was 87.0% flats in 2021, and every item’s price is on the price list.

Does the Article 4 direction on the Progress Estate affect an oven clean?

No. The Article 4 direction made in 1973 for the Progress Estate at Well Hall means a householder there needs permission for most changes, and an oven clean changes nothing in the house. The shelves and runners go to soak while the cavity and the door glass get hand cleaned in your kitchen. Then every part is refitted.
