Measure your cooker from side to side first: range cooker cleaning in London with Cleaning Oven is £143 for a 90 cm complete range and £167 for a master range of 100 cm or wider.

The width decides the price, and the hob, the hood and the warming drawer door are priced as separate items. Ranges have more parts than a standard oven, so the visit is longer too.

The width that makes a cooker a range

A range cooker is a freestanding cooker 90 cm across or wider, usually with two ovens side by side under a broad hob and often a separate grill compartment. A standard 60 cm cooker is priced by its doors as a single or a double oven; for a width between 60 and 90 cm, give the office the measurement and the model. To measure, run a tape across the front from the outside edge of one side panel to the outside edge of the other. Cookers are made in set widths, so a 90 cm model may read a few millimetres short; if the tape leaves you unsure, pass the model number to the office and it can confirm the width. Heat-storage cookers are a separate job with their own prices on the AGA cleaning page.

Complete range or master range?

At 90 cm the cooker is a complete range, £143, with all its ovens cleaned on one visit. At 100 cm or more it becomes a master range, £167. The extra width often means a third cavity or a larger main oven, with more shelves (the racks), more runners and more door glass to get through. On either size the method is the same as on any oven Cleaning Oven cleans: the parts that lift out go to soak and are cleaned apart from the cooker, while each cavity, door glass and door seal is cleaned by hand. The glass between the panes is done on every door that comes apart.

Burnt-on carbon and the marks that stay

On a range, burnt-on carbon usually lifts from the cavity floors, the shelves and the inside of each door, and so does baked grease. Enamel that has been etched dull, rust on a shelf or runner, door glass that is scratched or cloudy and a coating that has worn through are damage, so they stay. Gas and electric ranges are cleaned the same way and priced the same way, by width. On a gas range nothing on the gas side is loosened or adjusted, because the company does no gas work. Point out any mark you are unsure about before the cleaner starts.

When only one cavity is booked

Two other prices cover a wide cooker where one cavity is the job. A single wide oven is one large cavity behind one door on a 90 cm cooker, and it is £114; some 90 cm cookers are built that way in place of two ovens side by side. A half range oven is the smaller cavity of a range, priced by itself at £73. If you are not sure which of these fits your cooker, the guide to oven types and sizes compares them in one table, with widths and doors.

Parts of a range priced separately

The hob, the hood above it and the warming drawer door are each priced on their own, apart from the ovens. A range hob 90 cm or wider is £48, and a range-width extractor hood is the same £48. On the hob, the pan supports and burner caps are lifted off to soak while the hob top is cleaned by hand. On the hood, the metal grease filters soak; charcoal filters stay put, as most are designed to be thrown away and replaced. The extractor hood cleaning page goes through the hood in more detail. The door of the warming drawer under the ovens is £9.

A picture of the range before booking

For a range cooker the office may ask, during the call, for a picture of the cooker so the price fits it. Ranges vary far more than standard ovens: a single wide oven or a pair next to each other, a separate grill compartment, a third cavity, doors whose glass comes apart and doors whose glass stays sealed. With a picture the office can see which price applies before anyone travels. If the cooker on the day still differs from the one described, the cleaner raises it first and the two of you settle any change before any parts come out.

Longer on site than a standard oven

A range keeps the cleaner on site longer than a single oven, and a single alone can take up to an hour and a half. Each extra cavity brings its own shelves, runners, door glass and seal, and the cavity floors are wider. Switch every oven and the grill off well before the visit so the whole cooker has cooled. Leave the water and power on. Should the cleaner need a paid bay to park, that ticket is passed on at cost and tops out at £40. Your postcode can move the total, so check the full figure on the form or on the call; the oven cleaning price list shows every item side by side.

Questions about range cooker cleaning

Is a 110 cm range priced as a master range?

Yes. Any range cooker 100 cm wide or more is a master range at £167, so a 110 cm or 120 cm model costs the same as a 100 cm one.

Are Rangemaster, Smeg and Belling ranges priced the same way?

Yes. Range cookers from Rangemaster, Smeg, Belling and other makers are all priced by width and by the number of cavities. The make matters for the doors, as it tells the office whether the glass comes apart.

Can I book only the hob of my range?

Yes. A range hob is £48, and on its own that is below the £67 minimum, so a hob-only booking costs £67. Added to a visit for the range ovens, it is £48.
