Two doors, two cavities

A double oven is two separate ovens in one appliance of standard width, each behind its own door. The lower one is the main oven, usually with a fan at the back. The upper one is smaller and usually has the grill element in its roof, which is why plenty of people simply call it the grill. Each cavity has its own shelves (the racks) and side runners. On the visit both are taken in turn: the parts from each go to soak, then each cavity is worked by hand from floor to roof. The small top oven gets the full method too. No, it stays a single. A single oven with a grill has one door and one cavity, and you grill or bake in that same space by turning the dial. A double gives the grill a compartment of its own behind a second door. Built-in or freestanding

A built-in double oven sits in a tall housing unit at eye level, or under the worktop, with both doors facing out and no hob of its own. A freestanding double cooker carries its two ovens beneath its own hob. The clean is identical for both. Shelves, trays and runners from the two cavities soak together. Both cavities are then cleaned by hand, with the glass and seal of each door. Double oven cleaning in London is priced by the doors, so where the oven is fitted makes no difference to the figure. A freestanding cooker 90 cm across or more, with its ovens side by side, is priced as a range cooker instead.

Two trays in the price

The double oven price includes two trays and every shelf that belongs to either cavity. A third tray, and any after it, is £6 each. Do both ovens need to be cool?

Yes. Leave the main oven, the top oven and the grill switched off before the visit so both cavities are cool to work in. The tap water and the electricity supply should stay on.

How is a double oven clean booked?

Use the form, or phone 020 7048 2095 any day between 8am and 7pm. You agree the price and the date with the office, and a deposit of half the booking’s price, paid by card or bank transfer, holds the date.

Can the inner glass be done on both doors?

On each door it depends on how that door is built. Where a door comes apart, the glass between its panes is cleaned; where it does not, that glass stays out of reach. The office asks for the make and model of a double oven for this reason, to know which doors come apart.
