AGA cleaning in London starts with a call to agree when the cooker goes off to cool. With Cleaning Oven a two-oven AGA, Rayburn or Stanley is £143.

Four-oven AGAs and side modules have their own prices below. The cleaning covers the ovens and the enamel top; the burner, the flue and anything to do with fuel are left alone.

Heat-storage range cookers

An AGA is a heat-storage range cooker: its cast-iron ovens store heat, and traditional models are left on day and night so the ovens are always hot. Rayburn and Stanley cookers work on the same principle, and a two-oven Rayburn or Stanley is priced exactly like a two-oven AGA. Each oven sits behind its own heavy door, and the hotplates on top have insulated lids that close down over them. A conventional range cooker, with ovens you turn on only when cooking, is priced by its width on the range cooker cleaning page, and the oven types guide puts both kinds side by side.

Switching the cooker off before the visit

The AGA must be off and cool by the time the cleaner arrives. Because the body stores so much heat it cools slowly, and the right moment to turn it off depends on the cooker and on when the visit is. The office works that out with you at booking and gives you the switch-off time along with the date. Follow the maker’s instructions for turning it off, and keep the water and power running. From then on the household cooks on something else, such as a microwave or a separate hob, until the cleaner has finished.

AGA cleaning prices by size

Heat-storage cookerPrice
Two-oven AGA, Rayburn or Stanley£143
Four-oven AGA£187
Side module beside an AGA£100

Count the ovens to tell the size: a two-oven AGA, Rayburn or Stanley has one price and a four-oven AGA another. For a three-oven AGA, or any cooker you are unsure of, give the office the make and model on the call. The side module is the extra unit fitted beside some AGAs and is priced as an item of its own. Should the cleaner have to pay to park near you, the charge goes on the bill at cost and cannot exceed £40. The price for your address shows on the form and again on the call. An extractor over the cooker, and anything else on the price list, can join the same visit.

Parts of the AGA that are cleaned

The ovens, their shelves and trays, the enamel top and the insides of the hotplate lids, where they open, are cleaned on the visit. Shelves and trays come out first and soak while the cleaner works on the rest. Each oven is cleaned by hand inside, along with the inside of its door. The enamel top is cleaned by hand around the hotplates, and so is the underside of each lid that lifts. Burnt-on spills and grease on the enamel usually lift. Chips, crazing and worn patches in the enamel are damage and remain after the clean.

Booking an AGA clean

Book through the form, or ring the office on 020 7048 2095 between 8am and 7pm; Sunday visits are limited. The office asks how many ovens the cooker has and whether a side module sits beside it. It may also want a picture of the cooker, arranged during the call, to price it properly. Then the date and the switch-off time are agreed together. To hold the date you pay a deposit of half the price, with a card or by bank transfer. An AGA keeps the cleaner on site for longer than a standard single oven does.

Questions about AGA cleaning

How long does the AGA need to cool?

It varies with the cooker and the time of the visit, so there is no single figure for every AGA. The office agrees with you when to switch the AGA off as part of the booking, and it stays off until the cleaner has finished.

Does the cleaner touch the burner or the flue?

No. The burner, the flue and any fuel supply are never touched, and Cleaning Oven does no servicing or gas work of any kind on an AGA. A service is a separate booking with whoever looks after your cooker.

Is anything taken away to be cleaned?

No. Cleaning Oven collects nothing. The shelves and trays are soaked and cleaned during the visit. The ovens and the enamel top are done by hand, normally where the cooker stands.

Is a Rayburn priced like an AGA?

A two-oven Rayburn or Stanley is cleaned by the same method as a two-oven AGA and costs the same £143. Give the office the make and the number of ovens when you book. Anything not covered here may be on the oven cleaning questions page.
