Hob cleaning in London with Cleaning Oven is £28 for a gas hob and £23 for a ceramic or induction glass top. Booked alone, a hob comes to the £67 minimum; a single oven with a standard hob and extractor is £117.

What decides the price is the top. Gas hobs have loose parts that lift off and go to soak. A glass hob is one flat sheet, cleaned by hand where it sits.

Hob cleaning prices by type

Each kind of hob has its own price on this site, set by the surface and the width. A gas hob is £28. Ceramic and induction hobs share one price, £23, since both are flat glass with nothing to take apart. The wide top on a range cooker, 90 cm and up, is £48.

Not sure which one you have? Measure across the hob from the left edge to the right. Put the type and that width on the form or give them on the call.

A gas hob comes apart before it is cleaned

A gas hob is a set of burners sitting under heavy pan supports, with a cap on each burner that lifts off. The cleaner takes the pan supports and the burner caps off first and puts them in to soak. While they soak, the hob top is cleaned by hand, working round each burner base and into the edges where spills run under the supports. The soaked parts are then cleaned separately and set back in their places. The company does no gas work of any kind, so nothing on the gas side is loosened or adjusted. Burnt-on carbon around the burners usually lifts. Marks etched into enamel do not, and chips in it stay as they are.

Is a glass hob cleaned any differently?

Yes, because a ceramic or induction hob, the electric glass-top kinds, has nothing that comes off. The whole job happens on the glass itself, by hand: the cooking zones where boiled-over food has charred into rings, and the edge or frame around the sheet. Burnt residue on the zones usually comes away. Scratches cannot be cleaned out, and nor can patches where the glass itself has turned cloudy or discoloured; by then the mark is in the glass. Show the cleaner any mark you are unsure about before work on the glass begins.

Booking the hob with the oven

A hob booked by itself is charged at the minimum visit price of £67, because each hob price sits below that figure. Added to an oven booking, such as a single oven clean, the hob is charged at its own price. There are also two package prices: a single oven with its hob and extractor hood is £117, and a double oven with the same pair is £143. They are set prices for the three appliances in one visit with a gas, ceramic or induction hob; a range hob is priced on its own at £48. If the hood above your hob is part of it, the extractor hood cleaning page explains what happens to its grease filters.

Adding a splashback or microwave

A splashback is the panel on the wall behind the hob that catches spatter from the pans. It can be added to the same visit for £26, and a microwave for £22. Both have their own line on the oven cleaning price list. On its own, either one would come to the £67 minimum; added to an oven booking, each is charged at its own price. Tell the office which extras you want when you book, so the visit is planned with time for them.

Clearing the hob before the visit

Take everything off the hob before the cleaner arrives: pans, the kettle, a spoon rest, any glass cover or chopping board kept on top. Leave the hob switched off and cool. Keep the water and power on in the kitchen; the cleaner brings the equipment and products, so there is nothing for you to buy. If the hob is on a range cooker the office has not seen, it may ask for a picture by phone arrangement, so the price is right before the date is set.

Questions about hob cleaning

Is an induction hob priced as a ceramic one?

Yes. An induction hob and a ceramic hob both have a flat glass top, so both are cleaned by hand and both are £23. A glass top 90 cm or wider is priced as a range hob at £48.

Is the worktop around the hob cleaned too?

No. The hob clean covers the hob top and the parts that lift off it. Worktops, cupboards and floors are not part of any booking on this site, which cleans ovens and cooking appliances only.

What if my hob turns out to be a different type from the one I booked?

The cleaner tells you before starting and agrees any change in price with you then. The hob price on the booking comes from the details you gave, so a wider or different top from the one described is settled at the door, before any cleaning.
