Count the oven doors before you ring: a cooker in a terraced house, the borough’s commonest home, could be a single at £77 or a double at £110, and Cleaning Oven prices oven cleaning in Merton by that count.

The 81,726 households counted in Merton in 2021 lived mostly in houses. Terraces held 35.7% of them, semis 19.0% and detached homes 5.7%, against 39.6% in flats, and 55.6% owned their home. Much of it is interwar building: 36.8% of Merton’s homes on the Valuation Office list went up between the wars, and 24.6% of the total in the 1930s alone.

One door or two in a Morden terrace

Morden is the extreme case. After the Underground arrived in September 1926 the fields filled with houses so quickly that Merton’s character study singles it out as the only suburb of the Metroland type south of the river, and Valuation Office figures for the area put 71.0% of its homes in the 1930s. In 2021, 46.4% of households across Cannon Hill, Lower Morden, Ravensbury and St Helier wards lived in terraces. The cooker in a house there could be a built-in single, a built-in double with a smaller top cavity or a freestanding cooker. The office goes by doors and width: one door at up to 60 cm is a single, two doors at that width a double, with two trays included. A double runs longer than a single (usually somewhere between 40 minutes and an hour and a half), because both cavities and both sets of racks get the full treatment. If you are unsure what you have, the oven types guide shows each shape.

Mitcham lets and the selective licence

Landlords and agents re-letting a Mitcham house can book the oven for the days between tenants. Four of the six Mitcham wards, Figge’s Marsh, Graveney, Longthornton and Pollards Hill, need a selective licence for single-household lets, which most of Merton does not. Across all six, terraces housed 39.9% of households in 2021, and 28.4% rented privately. On the day the shelves, tray and side runners go to soak, and the cleaner hand-cleans the cavity before moving on to the glass and the door seal. The oven is then switched on as a check before the cleaner leaves. Baked carbon generally comes off; chips in the enamel and scratched or clouded glass do not, so say if you know of any. The end of tenancy oven clean can take in a standard hob and extractor too, £117 with a single oven.

Visitor e-permits and trade bays in Merton’s zones

Controlled zones cover 12 parts of Merton, from Colliers Wood and Morden to Wimbledon Village. Residents book visitor e-permits one at a time, each tied to a start time and a car registration, and in zones such as CW, M1 and RP no full-day visitor permit is sold at all. Two Wimbledon town centre zones, W3 and W4, are enforced into the late evening six days a week and also on Sunday and bank holiday afternoons. Wherever the cleaner pays to park, the bill carries that exact sum, capped at £40. Planning to use one of your own e-permits? Tell the office when you book.

Questions about oven cleaning in Merton

What decides the price of a barbecue clean in a Motspur Park garden?

The size of its cooking area. Up to 50 cm across it counts as a small barbecue, £64, and anything wider is a large one at £100. Merton’s character study puts Motspur Park down as inter-war, built as short terraces of four houses with long gardens behind, so run a tape across the grill before you ring.

Is a bank holiday booking possible in Merton?

Possibly: the office checks for a free slot when you ring, on any day between 8am and 7pm. Merton charges nothing for parking in its controlled zones on bank holidays, apart from W3 and W4 in Wimbledon town centre, which still charge from 2pm to 6pm, so in the Mitcham (CR4) and Morden (SM4) zones the cleaner’s parking costs nothing that day.

Can just the smaller oven of a range be done in a Wimbledon Village house?

Yes. The smaller cavity of a range can be booked by itself as a half range oven, £73. The complete cooker is £143 for 90 cm, rising to £167 for anything 100 cm across or more. Village ward, in SW19, had 29.6% of its households in detached houses in 2021, and a big house kitchen there may hold a range, so give its width when you ring.
