About 25,736 homes stood on the Becontree estate by 1938, most of them small two-storey houses laid out as short terraces. In houses like these across Barking and Dagenham, oven cleaning with Cleaning Oven starts at £77 for a single.

Terraced houses were the commonest home in the borough in 2021, holding 41.6% of its 73,902 households; flats held 31.1% and semis 22.1%. Roughly half of all homes went up between the wars, and in the four Becontree wards the Valuation Office puts 83.4% in 1919 to 1939. Owners (42.4%) and social tenants (31.5%) both outnumber private renters (24.2%). Becontree and Dagenham fall in RM8, RM9 and RM10; Barking is in IG11.

A single oven in a Becontree house, start to finish

The visit opens with the parts that lift out. Shelves, the tray, the side runners and, where it unscrews, the fan cover go to soak. Meanwhile the cavity, then the door glass and its seal, get cleaned by hand, with the panes inside the door reached only where it is made to come apart. Then the soaked parts are finished, everything is refitted and the oven is switched on to prove it heats. On site a single oven usually needs somewhere from 40 to 90 minutes. That matters around Dagenham Heathway, where pay-by-phone stays in the extended school zone are limited to four hours with no return inside two, comfortably longer than a single oven usually needs. The price, £77, includes one tray, and the single oven cleaning page goes into more detail.

Visitor permits and the Barking town centre zone

Visitor permits here are sold only to households inside a controlled zone. Each is virtual, linked to the visiting car’s number plate when bought online, and cannot be refunded, so ask the office first if you are thinking of getting one for the cleaner. Under a traffic order from 2018, Barking town centre’s Zone B was set to operate on all seven days, 8.30am to 9pm. Around Dagenham Heathway the school zone, extended from 4 August 2025, applies Monday to Friday. Where the cleaner has to pay, you are charged the amount spent and the total never goes past £40. Each appliance has its own figure on the price list, and the office confirms the total for your postcode on the call.

Fob doors in Barking’s flats around Abbey and Gascoigne

Around Barking town centre the wards are mostly flats. Abbey ward was 73.4% flats in 2021, Gascoigne 70.9%, Northbury 63.9%. The council’s own advice on bulky waste says its crews are often stuck at the fob-controlled doors of privately rented blocks, and a cleaner with equipment faces the same doors. Tell the office how to get in, whether by a code, a buzzer or someone coming down to open up. If the cleaner is turned away because nobody can open up, up to £50 is kept. In a newer flat the oven is usually a built-in one; count its doors, as a double is priced differently from a single.

Questions about oven cleaning in Barking and Dagenham

Do social tenants in Becontree book the same way?

Yes. Renting from a social landlord was how 31.5% of the borough’s households lived in 2021, and the booking is made between you and the office like any other. The price follows the oven and the postcode.

What happens to the hob on top of a freestanding cooker?

On gas, the pan supports and caps go in the soak while the top gets a hand clean; a ceramic top is done where it sits. Added to the oven, the hob is £28 for gas and £23 for ceramic, and the hob cleaning page has the rest.

Will rust on the oven floor come off?

No. Rust, chipped or etched enamel and worn-away coatings are damage, and they stay. Carbon baked onto the floor and walls usually lifts.
